The Covid-19 lockdown impacted all areas of society, and this was particularly true for schools.
With premises closed to the majority of pupils, teachers quickly needed to adapt their lessons to online environments. ReelPlatform supported one Shropshire based primary school to help them continue teaching and adapt to the ‘new normal’.
CLIENT BACKGROUND
Church Preen Primary School is located near the Shropshire village of Much Wenlock and is part of the Edge Schools’ Federation.
The school is a three form entry and is rated ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED.
CLIENT CHALLENGES
In late March 2020, as part of measures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK Government announced that schools would be closed to all but a very small number of pupils.
This meant that Church Preen Primary School needed a mechanism to continue to deliver lessons to pupils and support parents who were homeschooling. Alongside this they needed to provide a sense of community and normality for those families during a strange and difficult time. Seeing their teachers each week on video was one way of doing this.
The challenge for Church Preen was to find an online tool that was effective, accessible to parents, secure and cost-effective.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
ReelPlatform provided Church Preen with an instance of the platform, which included each class and their subject areas.
On a regular basis teachers recorded a video of their lesson using a mobile device and uploaded them to the relevant area on the platform. Parents could then quickly and easily filter each subject to find the latest lesson. Along with each video clip, teachers could add a resource for download.
Parents were invited to sign-up and as website members, they were able to access lessons. The website was fully branded with Church Preen’s school colours and logo.
PROJECT RESULTS
The Church Preen Primary School ReelPlatform instance played a valuable role in enabling the school to continue engaging with pupils during the lockdown period. Over 80% of parents who joined the platform accessed lessons on a regular basis.
It was a real privilege to help Church Preen during this difficult time and to do our bit to help a school during the Covid-19 pandemic. Keeping education running effectively was vital and it was amazing to see teachers and pupils taking full advantage of ReelPlatform.
